About Nordscale

Nordscale is the specialist operator for mission-critical AI data centers. We manage the operations that keep AI compute sites running reliably, efficiently, and safely. Founded as a strategic partnership between the AI hyperscaler Nscale and Norwegian energy company Nordkraft, we harness local expertise and data center operations experience to deliver service excellence to our customers, while building skilled local jobs and partnering with Norwegian businesses to create lasting value in the regions where we work.

Our culture combines local Northern Norwegian values, international expertise, and disciplined operational excellence. We’re a team built on trust, ownership, and collaboration: we communicate openly, take accountability for outcomes, and work as one team across sites, partners, and functions to deliver performance people can depend on.

About the Role (Job Purpose)

The Facility Process Operations Specialist will play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mechanical and process systems across a rapidly expanding data center campus in Narvik (25MW and 75MW). This critical facility supports the infrastructure of one of the world’s largest organisations at the forefront of the AI revolution.

In this role, you will oversee the day-to-day performance, optimisation, and continuous improvement of mechanical and process systems, with a particular focus on cooling infrastructure, water treatment, and other mission-critical utilities that underpin data center operations. Working closely with engineering and operations teams, you will help maintain operational resilience, drive process excellence, and support the successful integration of new capacity as the campus continues to expand. Your expertise will contribute to system reliability, operational efficiency, and the ongoing evolution of the site’s technical and operational standards.

What You’ll be Doing (Responsibilities)

  • Monitor, analyse, and optimise the performance of mechanical, electircal and process systems across the data center campus.
  • Take ownership of operational processes supporting cooling systems, chilled water infrastructure, heat rejection systems, pumps, valves, and associated mechanical utilities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system efficiency, resilience, sustainability, and operational performance through continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop, review, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Method of Procedures (MOPs), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), and technical work instructions.
  • Work alongside Operations and Engineering teams to ensure critical systems operate safely, efficiently, and within design parameters.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and handover activities for new mechanical systems as additional campus capacity comes online.
  • Analyse operational data and trends to optimise plant performance, energy consumption, water usage, and equipment reliability.
  • Support change management activities by assessing operational impacts and validating process changes before implementation.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, operational records, and performance reporting.
  • Support audits, compliance activities, and continuous improvement programmes across the campus.
  • Work closely with equipment vendors, contractors, and specialist suppliers to ensure systems are maintained to the highest operational standards.

About You (Skills, Qualifications & Experience)

Key Characteristics

  • Passionate about operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach.
  • Calm under pressure and able to make informed decisions within mission-critical environments.
  • Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Collaborative and able to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering and operational teams.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and committed to delivering high operational standards.
  • Safety-focused with a strong understanding of critical infrastructure risk management.
  • Excellent communicator capable of translating technical information into operational improvements.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience operating or optimising mechanical process systems within mission-critical environments such as data centers, industrial plants, energy facilities, pharmaceuticals, or manufacturing.
  • Demonstrable experience with cooling infrastructure, chilled water systems, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, water treatment systems, HVAC, or other mechanical utilities.
  • Strong understanding of process optimisation, system performance analysis, reliability engineering, and operational efficiency.
  • Experience supporting live critical facilities where uptime, resilience, and operational continuity are essential.
  • Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) such as EON or GapIT.
  • Familiarity with commissioning, integrated systems testing, and operational readiness processes is highly desirable.
  • Experience developing or maintaining SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, and operational documentation.
  • Understanding of environmental and sustainability considerations relating to cooling systems, energy efficiency, and water management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Experience within hyperscale or colocation data centers is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work on-site in Narvik and support occasional out-of-hours activities during commissioning or critical operational events.

What We Can Offer You

  • Competitive salary negotiable based on experience
  • Performance-based bonus tied to results and company performance
  • Potential salary growth linked to increased MW expansion
  • Opportunity to lead operations in a rapidly scaling AI infrastructure environment
  • Relocation package if required
